The Oxford Declaration

Welcome to Pathfinder Audio's website. We aim through our recordings to keep the lyrics and ideas of the younger Romantics (the rock stars of their age ) alive, and also publish John Webster's songs - 'real and positive songs for the 21st century'.

Why do the younger Romantics - Keats, Shelley, Byron - matter? Aside from their position as literary giants they lived at a time of transition and turbulence very like ours. The courage and ambition with which they confronted their times is a kind of resource for us faced with the challenges of global warning, poverty, and globalization. Through John Webster's song versions of their lyrics, recorded with Brindaband, one can access their work as if they were contemporary songwriters, bringing the strength of their lyrics into your environment in an informal way.

A good place to start is with 'My Romantics EP', a seven song collection which serves as an introduction to our work.

There is also a wealth of free supporting material on the site which also aims to bring out the Romantics' contemporary resonances. Highlighted here are reflections on what Byron's encounters with Islam say to us today; the connections between John Lennon and Shelley, and how Keats overcame emotional turmoil to achieve what he did:
