Dub poet and Shelley admirer Benjamin Zephaniah narrates the critically acclaimed CDs 'The Shelley Story' and 'Lord Byron and the Greek War'. The CDs feature a unique and imaginative element: John Webster's electric folk/soft rock versions of Shelley and Byron lyrics, performed with Brindaband (hear samples at 'Songtracks'). Unpretentious and informal in style, the songs provide a contemporary and accessible insight into the worlds of the two poets, and draw on around 30 key poems, including the Ode to the West Wind, Adonais, Hellas, The Mask of Anarchy, Prometheus Unbound (Shelley) and Don Juan, Childe Harold, and assorted lyrics (Byron).
‘Attractive, engaging’ - The Times; ‘Absorbing and novel’ - The Morning Star; ‘Intelligent and profound’ - The Independent on Sunday; ‘Well worth a listen’ - Eastern Daily Press
Through a narrative which negotiates the passions and tragedies of the poet's life, linked to song versions of his lyrics, the CD provides a compelling and original overall view of his work and his vision for humanity.

The first liberal interventionist ? A unique insight into the poet's final exploit, his journey to Greece to support the Greek War of Independence in 1823/4. The story begins in Ravenna in 1821, traces Byron's growing interest in contemporary movements for national independence, and describes his decision to join the Greek uprising against foreign rule. The narrative is based on eyewitness accounts of Byron's journey, contains a number of reconstructed dialogues, and is enhanced by Brindaband's song versions of Byron lyrics. 'This CD would be a welcome additional resource for any 11 to 18 year old studying Shelley who would like a quick but knowledgeable and authoritative way into their subject. It may also be of use to teachers of humanities and of history - as it describes the momentous intellectual changes which were taking place in the early 19th century' - School Librarian journal (on 'The Shelley Story')
11 of John's songs which focus on the contemporary world and our role within it. Its tagline - 'real and positive songs for the 21st century' - gives a clue to its activist, and ultimately supportive nature.
